Into the Shadows: Mastering Low-Light Filmmaking

Join Sony Digital Imaging advocate Andrew J Clarke for this deep dive into low-light filmmaking. Improve your camera settings, gear choices and workflow for clean, cinematic imagery for when the light is scarce.

Step into the world of low-light filmmaking with Sony Digital Imaging Advocate Andrew J Clarke. This session explores how to unlock the full potential of your camera gear when the light gets scarce. Discover why low light shooting matters — not just as a technical challenge or creative option for mood and storytelling, but as a necessary tool for the modern videographer.

We’ll dive into sensor architecture, gamma profiles and noise, and learn to leverage this knowledge to capture clean, cinematic imagery with minimal lighting. We’ll also cover practical gear choices, including fast lenses and compact lighting options ideal for small crews, as well as post-production techniques like denoising and shadow recovery. Whether you’re shooting event coverage, documentaries, music videos, or narrative scenes, this session will help you overcome your fear of the dark.
