Join one of Australia’s most experienced food photographers, Craig Kinder, as he shares the art and craft of creating compelling food imagery that goes beyond simply photographing a meal.
With more than three decades of experience working with chefs, restaurants, producers, publishers, and commercial clients, Craig will explore the techniques and creative decisions that transform food photography into visual storytelling. Drawing from his extensive career photographing award-winning cookbooks, advertising campaigns, and editorial projects, he will discuss how to create images that capture not only the food itself, but the people, passion, and process behind it.
This session will cover Craig’s approach to lighting, styling, composition, working with chefs and food producers, and developing imagery that connects with audiences. Through practical insights, real-world examples, and behind-the-scenes stories, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to create professional food photography that is both visually striking and authentic.

Biography
Craig Kinder is a Perth – based food photographer with more than 34 years of professional experience creating compelling imagery for chefs, food brands, food producers and publishers across Australia and internationally. Known for his ability to capture the story behind the food, Craig’s work goes far beyond documenting a dish, focusing on the people the lifestyle and the passion that brings our food from the paddock to the plate.
Craig prides himself on achieving the ‘Wow factor’ for his clients. He is trained and experienced and quite simply no one in Perth has photographed more cook books, photographed more food advertising campaigns or won more food related photography awards.
Craig is inspired by the energy of chefs, the dedication of producers, and the unique challenges each project presents. His photography combines technical expertise with a strong sense of storytelling, creating images that feel genuine, authentic, engaging, and full of character.
Throughout his career, Craig has been honoured to have photographed approx 46 cookbooks (and more coming), each with its own distinctive style and creative vision. Many of these publications have received both national and international awards, and most importantly made life long friends along the way.
Renowned for his collaborative approach, Craig is equally comfortable working alongside celebrity chefs, corporate clients, gourmet producers, and local communities. His ability to connect with people and bring their stories to life through imagery has made him one of Western Australia’s most respected photographers.
Through his photography, Craig continues to celebrate the connection between food, people, and place, creating imagery that is as genuine as it is visually compelling.
